Review of Episode 10, Season 2

"Reunion"

An emotionally driven episode that picks up where we last left off as Tim Minear continues with his writing excellence in this progressing arc. Emotional struggles are what drive this episode, introspective and confrontation. Drusilla’s reemergence and excitement over Darla’s rebirth, Angel’s pain with the expectations of killing Darla, again, and Darla’s own anger towards Drusilla for bringing her back into this vampire family. Yet, Angel can not commit Darla to her dusty grave, as oddly, Darla can not kill Angel. But as much as compassion wanes, death forebodes.

"Let's go shopping, huh?"
Darla, demonic once again, contends with her own morality in analyzing Holland. "You really care about me as a person," she says to him, justifying his worthlessness in her eyes. Yet Lindsey, she still holds an affinity for while her true resentment is held for Drusilla. Perhaps a part of her humanity lingers, however when she finally embraces her own dark destiny in this tale we get the epitome of Darla.

Juliet Landau totally recaptures the essence of Dru. This is classic Drusilla with Tim and Shawn [Ryan] writing her brilliantly, not losing any of the characters genuine nuances. She is frightening, in that psychologically scary sort of way, but if you know her from her Buffy the Vampire Slayer days, for some odd reason, you just can’t help but giggle when she’s on screen. She’s just so wacked! Darla and Dru together are electric!"

The moral question here is where does Angel’s personal importance lie? By the shocking surprise of not saving the Wolfram & Hart gatherers he is defying TPTB sole direction of sending Angel on his soul saving destiny. Has he now become Judge and jury? Can he decide who is worth saving and who should die? Ironically, Holland and Angel mirror each other with the line, "And yet, I just can’t seem to care." Angel has been handling the Darla situation on his own without too much intervention of the LA Scooby gang. He has been flirting with darkness for some time and now finally realizes just how close to this inner demon he really is. His firing of the AI staff is not one of malice, but rather protection. If he truly thinks his balance is in danger, he wants them safely at bay. But who is going to help him now? And who of W&H, if any, will live?

A Few Fan Comments:

"I forgot how much Juliet adds to the show, she is awesome!" ~ Jim from IN

"Julie Benz and Juliet Landau are amazing together!" ~ Felicia from NJ

"If there are any vamps that bad, I’ve yet to see them." ~ Adam from New Brunswick, Canada

"The episode was amazing. Dru and Darla are so good at being bad! You know they’re evil but you love watching them anyway. Now all they need is Angel to rejoin them and their terrible threesome will be complete!" ~ Michele from GA

I give it...

Special Guest Reviewers:
This week, Iris and clover from Dallas, TX

They're Baaaaack! And evil as ever! David Boreanaz, Julie Benz, and Juliet Landau did an excellent job in the episode, Reunion. Wow. Oh Wow. Oh Wow. Reminds you of the good ' ol days... Ah, memories!

Iris here. The sis clover is typing in a bit. Much foreshadowing is in this episode, and it eventually bites Holland Manners in the butt. When he suggests the idea of a massacre to Dru and Darla, he had no idea he would end up as their main course. Duh Holland. Dru and Darla shopping, now that was a sight to see. Both seem to have adjusted well to the 20th century (or as Angel pointed out to Dru, the 21st *g*) except for Dru, who hadn't quite gotten the grasp of her cell phone. "I'm ringing all over..." *g* And did you notice?! Cordy finally had another vision - I almost forgot she had those. When 'The Obsessed One' reluctantly goes to save the guy Cordy has a vision about, he does it as though he's going through the drive-thru at a fast food restaurant - in a hurry with little care (no offense to fast food restaurants). I experienced a Keanu Reeves moment at the end of the episode: Whoa. Angel turning to the 'dark side.' Whoa. And of course I'm in my chair going "Ohmygod! Ohmygod! Ohmygod!" The possibilities of what happens next are endless, well, at least to me they are. *g* Now that I think about it, Drusilla could have been foreshadowing when she said, "Now everybody's home." Dru, Darla Angelus? But, are they really?

clover's POV: Love this episode! Oh how I've missed Dru! I just loved the quote, "Very sweet she was... like clover... and honey. " Hee. Am I the only one that has missed Dru and her wackiness?! I sure hope not. Juliet did an excellent job tonight. "Run and catch. Run and catch. The lamb is caught in the blackberry patch." Classic Dru. Dru and Miss Edith are back. Yea! Now on to Lindsey. I refuse, and I mean REFUSE to believe Lindsey is dead! I say, 'Long Live Lindsey!' *g* I just love that guy. Lilah, Lilah, Lilah... As much as I'd like to think you survived with Lindsey, I'm sure you bit the big one. Holland, we hardly knew ya. Darn. Is Angel obsessed or what?! I think our brooding soulful guy needs to get his priorities straight. STAT. The ending left me speechless. (And that's hard to do.) Oh wow. Fired?! No. Way. Is Angel heading towards the 'dark side'? Or is good 'ol Angelus already there? I don't know. But I sure can't wait to find out.

CoA Stakes Rating Guide
= Disappointing, stake it, bury it!
= Not too bad, Lacking a few graves.
= Typical Dark Avenger saves the day Saga.
= Better still, Quality Headstones.
= Outstanding! Reward it with mortality!

Angel: I have to find her. (rummages through cabinet)
Cordelia: Drusilla?
Gunn: She probably ain't in there.

Angel: It's not too late!
Wesley:
It is. She's dead already, and come nightfall she will rise again.
Angel: No, she won't. I can save her from that. (holds up a stake)

Gunn: Na, na... What I'm saying is, that means the granddaughter remade the grandmother.
Wesley: Yes.
Gunn: Man, somehow that weirds me out more than the whole bloodsucking thing!

Cordelia: What's the plan? Stand outside his door and make remarks?

Dru: Grandmother is very pleased with it. I can tell. (to Darla) Aren't you Grandmother?
Lindsey:
Can she hear you?
Dru: She's dead.
Lindsey: Oh, of course.

Dru: I'm going to be a mommy.
Holland: Yes, yes you are.

Dru: (singing) Run and catch. Run and catch. The lamb is caught in the blackberry patch.

Cordelia: Still not narrowing. Whole planet, pretty much made up of earth.

Dru: That's not a fitting gift at all for our newborn grandmummy!

Dru: Now everybody's home.

Dru: Baby's up from a little nap.

Angel: Everyone gear up, grab something sharp. We need to move fast.

Cordelia: Hitting the pause button, Wolfram & Heart? As in, vampire detectors, crack security system and armed guards? Good plan, General Custer!

Gunn: You had me at "everyone gear up."

Dru: Angelus is on his way here now... He's very cross.

Darla: Why?
Dru: You! All for you! I thought it was what you wanted. To be saved... All alone... All alone in the dirt. We've lost our way and the little worm won't dance if he's told too. No... No...

Dru: You're all new again!
Darla: Let's go shopping, huh?

Dru: I'm ringing! Do you hear it? I'm ringing all over... (Darla reveals Dru's cell phone) Oh, yeah. Forgot about that.

Darla: A massacre?
Dru: Oh, I like that sound of that.

Dru: Do you like it? Am I pretty then?
Darla: As a picture. Now if we could only get some shoes to go with it. Oh, excuse me, Miss? Any shoe suggestions for my ensemble. I said, excuse me. Customer with a question here. (breaks neck of wimpering saleswoman) Service in this place is really unacceptable.

Angel: I could crush the life out of you before they could even lift a finger.
Holland: I'm sure can. Just as sure as I am that you won't.
Angel: Why?
Holland: You don't kill humans.
Angel: You don't qualify.

Holland: And yet, I just can't seem to care.

Lindsey: Give him a nice holding cell, officers. Southern exposure preferred. (to Angel) The firm may not want you dead, but I'm cool with it.

Darla: Your wife was kind enough to invite us in, Holland.
Dru: Very sweet, she was... Like clover... (licks blood off her lip) and honey.
Darla: Just think of it as our way of giving you want you want.
Dru: What do I... ?
Darla: I believe you said something about, (vamping) a massacre?

Dru: Pretty lawyers all in a row!

Holland: I'm glad you're alive, Darla. I'm glad we were able to save you.
Darla: Are you? I guess you really care about me as a person. I guess I owe all of you. The whole team. (chuckless)

Dru: You have beautiful skin.
Lilah: I-I moisturize.
Dru: That was very thoughtful of you.

Darla: You brought me back as human... a dying one, at that... let me wallow with a soul, then sent me crawling back to Angel, begging him to restore me.

Dru: Grandmum won't eat with the double-speak!
Darla: No... No, she won't do that.

Dru: I hear the sirens. They don't know if the world will be there in the morning.
Lilah: (to Lindsey) Do you hear the sirens? A-Are the police coming?
Lindsey: No, she senses what this place was built for.
Holland: Ah, yes, Drusilla. You're quite right! This was originally a bomb shelter in the '50s. We had it converted. Wine has always been my... passion. (Darla chuckles
)
Dru:
People huddled together, crouching in fear.
Holland: Yes, I imagine that's what it would have been like in a war.
Darla: No. Now. She means now.
Holland: Uh-huh... I guess I stepped into that one.

Darla: Gung-ho are they? Cause all I'm sensing right now is big, stinky fear! (to Lindsey) But not from you... Do you know what I'm getting from you Lindsey? Nothing. Why aren't you afraid?
Lindsey: I don't know.
Darla: You could die here. Chances are you will.
Lindsey: I know.
Darla: And you don't care?
Lindsey: I care. I guess I just don't mind.

Darla: Dru, honey, in our new digs we have to put in a people cellar.

Dru: Daddy's home.

Darla: Angelus. Here for the tasting?
Dru: Look what we have for you... It's not daddy, it's never daddy. (hisses at Angel) It's the Angel beast.
Darla: Come to punish us?
Dru: Yeah! Yeah! Spank us till Tuesday! Rrrr... We promise to be bad if you do!

Darla: Come on, love, I never did get that good-bye kiss.
Angel: You will, but not tonight.

Lilah: For God's sake, help us!
Holland:
Angel, please. People are going to die!
Angel: And yet somehow, I just can't seem to care.

Wesley: And you... just walked away?
Angel: No, I walked to my car then I drove away.

Wesley: You could've stopped them.
Angel: And I will.
Cordelia:
When? After they've finished off all the people you don't like?!

Wesley: Right now the three of us are all that's standing between you and real darkness!
Gunn: You best believe that, man.
Angel: I do... You're all fired.
