Kate
Lockley is an up and coming detective for the Los Angeles Police Department.
She first meets Angel working opposite sides of a case at a popular singles
bar. In a classic case of mistaken identity, Kate believes Angel is a
serial killer, but that belief is erased once he saves her life. Her subsequent
encounters with Angel lead Kate to trust him as a helpful stranger, and
she, in turn, has assisted him given her position on the police force.
Further, Kate finds herself attracted to the enigmatic private investigator,
even though she wont admit it, even to herself.
It is clear, however, that Kate is not one to take what she is given without question. Her no-nonsense upbringing by her widower father, Trevor, who was also a police officer, has taught her to put her emotions aside and to take care of herself at all costs. Discovering Angel is really a vampire shakes up Kates black and white world and puts her on the path to finding out more about the darker side of LA. Finding her fathers lifeless and bloodless body sends her over the edge, putting her on the warpath. Due to what Angel really is and his failure to save her father, Kate struggles with their relationship. Armed with the knowledge of his past as Angelus, the Scourge of Europe, she hurls her hatred and frustration at him every time they meet. Obsessed with ridding the city of "his kind," Kate is the first to investigate any calls matching the "other-worldly" profile, even if its out of her jurisdiction. While she endures the jokes and ridicule and strange looks from her fellow police officers, Kate has learned a few things along the way about the forces of evil driving L.A. She has developed an intense dislike for Wolfram & Hart and the "special" clients the law firm represents. No longer is there an attraction for Angel or any semblance of their prior understanding; in fact, Kates belligerence towards Angel has driven him to declare battle against his former ally. Once she meets Angels challenge, Kate seems to regret it. Kates obsession with supernatural cases becomes her own undoing: She is eventually fired from the LAPD and attempts to take her own life by washing down prescription pills with hard liquor. During her "pill-a-thon," she calls Angel and blames him for ruining her life because he made her believe. After he has his fabled epiphany, Angel breaks down Kates door and holds her under a cold shower, saving her life. That evening, Kate and Angel come to a reckoning and
she forgives him, renouncing her vendetta against him. Whats more,
she believes theres a higher power at work and theyre not
in the never-ending battle against the forces of darkness alone. When
he asks her why, Kate replies that she never invited him into her apartment.
Her current whereabouts and activities have yet to be revealed.
