nter the world of Angel and become part of an exciting universe where vampires and demons are real, and you are a member of the
champion team to save the world! Or, if you don’t like being on the side of good, there’s always evil - just sign the contract on the dotted
line and don’t worry about the “death and dismemberment” clause, we take care of everything! By entering this contest, the entrant takes
the identity of a specific Character from the Angel Universe or as role playing games require: the Director; in either role you will
create a unique, original scenario in written form of 2,000 words or less. You don’t need to know the methods and rules of the specific
Angel RPG to create an off-screen adventure and how it might play out, all you need is your imagination! But we will give you Three (3)
Contest Scenario’s to choose from and a little sampling from the official forthcoming Angel RPG Corebook to help you construct your
submissions. The below italic text is from the forthcoming Angel RPG Corebook and is provided as an abridged overview synopsis for
creating your scenario submission.
Creating Characters ~
You create a character, you choose the character’s strengths and weaknesses, abilities and limitations, and-in particular-personality.
During the course of the game, you make this Cast Member’s decisions, utterances, and actions. You can get yourself a sweet leather duster too.
If you like, you can play any of the Original Cast from the Angel or you might take on another role, just get creative and make up a character of
your own. Whatever you do, you’ve got an edge. You’re one of the good guys, the champions-you are fighting the good fight. Now, that’s not to
say your creations won’t have a dark side . . . or two.
Being The Director ~
That key player is called the Director. The Director sets the scene, plots the plot, details the descriptions, and engages in other nifty
alliterations. The Director speaks for the other characters-anyone that the Cast Members meet in their adventures. A Guest Star could be the
run-away running right into the arms of a bloodsucker, an administrative assistant searching for a way to blow the whistle on her superiors, or
someone more mundane . . . or more twisted. If the Director-controlled characters are out for Cast Member blood . . . or worse, they are called
Adversaries. These include the demons, vamps, and other nasties-including the real bad guys, the lawyers.
The Angelspeak Lingo ~
Language is as important to the feel of the Angelverse as the existence of the monsters and the champions who fight them.
It’s often the choice and rhythm of the words spoken on the show that makes watching Angel Investigations make it through another
weekly adventure such fun. The game can be played, and very enjoyably so, without trying to emulate the banter from the source material,
but that interplay is such a large component of its success.
Wesley: She’s fine . . . and out at the moment with one of our associates.
Cordelia: Who is not an evil fiend . . . or a vampire . . . because they don’t exist.
In case you’re unfamiliar with our L.A. gumshoe detective slang.
Season 3 - Episode 5: Fredless
CONTEST GUIDELINES:
- OBJECT :
Write an original story based upon One of the three Contest Scenarios Titles below. Create your unique story
with any of the characters already established on Angel or create new ones. You may add your own
original dialogue within the story to help emphasize the action but it is not to be
written in script form. Scenarios must be written in 2,000 words or less.
You must have the following elements in this order:
- Scenario Title
- Scenario
- Word Count
CONTEST SCENARIO TITLES: Choose One of the three scenarios to write about. Come up with your own unique and original idea that would provide any gamer with an
exciting adventure.
a) A History Untold
There have been many scenes in Angel that have been pivotal to the Angelverse storyline but which have never made it to screen;
by creating a scenario in some off-screen time such as how Connor became known as The Destroyer or his growing up in Quor'toth,
The Groosalugg in Pylea, or Cordy & Gru on vacation.
Taking the identity of one of the Angel Investigations Cast Member (existing or invented) in your chosen scenario, describe the missing piece of action.
b) Chronicles Rewritten
Have there ever been times when an episode has not ended quite the way you wanted it to?
In this scenario you take up the identity of the
RPG Director, you can add additional characters, deviate from the existing story arc or provide a new
pivotal element that will lead Angel and the gang onto another path of redemption or destruction.
Taking the identity of Joss Whedon in your chosen scenario, rewrite an existing episodic
ending as to how you would have liked to have
seen it conclude.
c) Senior Partner for a Day
Imagine you are one of the top upstarts at the evil law firm of Wolfram & Hart. What devilish plans would you have for Angel? What other
prophecies are we yet to discover involving the vampire with a soul? The world is at your feet and you have access to all the knowledge in it -
it’s time you took Angel Investigations down and moved up the corporate ladder.
Taking the identity of one of W&H’s Cast Members (existing or invented) in your chosen scenario, describe a day in the life of Wolfram & Hart.
