There was a bit of disappointment with the noticed absences of Alyson Hannigan [Willow], Emma Caulfield [Anya], Nicholas Brendan [Xander] and Eliza Dushku [Faith] who have all attended in past years. Julie Benz [Darla], Charisma Carpenter [Cordelia], David Boreanaz [Angel] and Sarah Michelle Gellar [Buffy] unfortunetly declined their invitations this year as well. |
Saturday Night, and it’s the main event! The PBPLA 2001 was held at the Historic American Legion Hall next door to the Hollywood Bowl in the heart of Studio City. At 6:00pm the iron gates opened and the line was already formed as Bronzers eagerly awaited and dressed in their finest. The place was grand and a fitting setting for such a night for slayer and vampire fans with its iron gates and large oaken arched doors where a spacious foyer greeted you upon arrival beckoning you within its grand hallways. High vaulted ceiling and twisting corridors amongst its lower level created that gothic feel and the amazing acoustics in the grand hall where the performances were viewable from either stadium seating on the sides and back or from the gracious floor where gathering and dancing prevailed was decorated with balloons and holiday lights where we found Marti getting asked for her autograph. Marti Noxon: “Yeah, we’re having a great time. In fact, I was just thinking today, I never envisioned that I’d still be on the show after four years and I can’t believe that we’re still as excited as we are. Next year is going to be just as good! Joss and I were talking about next year tonight and we’re already cooking up some good stuff for next year, some really good stuff! So as long as it stays fun, we’ll still be doing it. As long as people keep watching.” Not too far away there was one Rogue Demon Hunter fending for his mortal life, Alexis Denisof: “Oh it’s fantastic! Wesley’s been a great part to play. I’m so happy, every day I get to go to work, it’s a joy. He’s so much fun and the people I work with, I’m very, very lucky!” “Well, you’re doing an outstanding job.” “Well thank you, thank you. That’s kind of you to say.”

Off the main Foyer, stations were set up where bands such as Velvet Chain and Four Star Mary could sell their wares! Erika Amato: “I’m just having a great time, not having to perform this year and getting to chat with all the fans!” An entire room was devoted to computers for fans to log-on to the Buffy Posting board The Bronze and CityofAngel’s Angel Forum so attendees could let their fellow posters and friends know what was happening at the party, live as events took place! We spotted Jane mixing in with the crowd nicely with handsome boyfriend in tow. Jane Espenson: “I think Angel is amazing this season! I think J. August is just fascinating, Gunn, can’t take my eyes off him. And The Host! Oh my God, suddenly it’s the funniest show on TV! Angel season two just rocket to the moon.” “And more praises from Tim along the way?” “Oh my God, Tim Minear’s a god. Tim Minear’s the funniest man who ever lived! He can structure a story like milking a cow! Or something else that he might do well, but it’s probably not milking a cow.” (laugh)

An amazing buffet of food was spread out in another section of the Hall with every temping taste for any preferred palette’s satisfaction! From gourmet shrimp puffs to the zesty chicken kabobs, black bean quesadillas (a favorite of Rogue Slayer), and the spinach/artichoke dip got oohs and ahhs. Not to mention the fresh made chocolate deserts though not many people needed the caffeine to get psyched for this event! More to the effect that the bar was doing a good business to calm the nerves of fans as the VIPs started to arrive. This is where we found Tim and Rob munching a few things down. Tim Minear: “I have a comment! And that is that I believe barring extraordinary circumstances that the children are our future!” and Rob Kral: “All I can say about that is, ‘the more you know, the more you know!’ Sorry NBC, sorry about that.” (laugh) It’s a good thing these guys have a day job! (laugh)
The lower level consisted of a private bar area where the VIPs could hang out and not be disturbed although this was rarely, if ever, used during the entire night unlike last year where a balcony section kept the VIPs in the ‘overview’ position. Although David Greenwalt and J. August Richards did retreat there for just a few minutes to eat their dinners, in every corner of the spacious venue there held a VIP, willing to sign any and all, take pics and of course give CoA their thoughts on this kick-ass evening with the fans, the outstanding seasons of both shows and their exciting characters. Chris was working his way into the main foyer but not before he gave us Lindsey’s feeling on that dead-guy! Christian Kane: “His ass is mine! He’s done! I’m gonna turn things around. (laugh) One of these days I’m gonna get him back for all the stuff he’s done to me.” One of the sweetest guys of the night was J. August who told us how he views Gunn. J. August Richards: “Good, because it’s like a series of layers coming off of an onion to me. I think when we first saw him all his armor was on and now it’s slowly getting striped away to where it’s just the very bare essence of this loving huge person.” “And his relationship with Angel?” “It’s dynamic. He’s still a vampire and I’m still a vampire hunter so there’s still a little conflict but there’s love too.”
