We had a little extra time and Mere didn't want to go back to work just yet, 'Kidding, Joss!', so she was willing to indulge us with something new. We figured how fun would it be to delve into the psyche of this creative nerve ending by playing the dreaded Word Association Game. Some of her asides favored to be even more interesting than her answers! (laugh) Here's a Special CoA Extra:
"So! Tell us, Frau Mere, vut is dis strange obsession you have vid deese creatures of da night?"
Dr. Van Helsing: Vampires
 Mere Smith: Sexy.
Dr. VH: Los Angeles
MS: Smog. "Oh God, that's so sad that that's the first word I thought of, smog."
Dr. VH: Cheese
MS: Wizz? (laugh) "I'm pathetic and need to be shot!"
Dr. VH: Faith
MS: Dark.
 Dr. VH: Alexis Denisof.
MS: Funny! "And he's so sweet, I just love his smile."
Dr. VH: Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Movie
MS: Unfortunate! (hysteric laughter)
Dr. VH: Ouch, I thought you were going for, 'unfortunately I didn't see it.' (laugh)
MS: "No. No, that's the word!"
Dr. VH: Wolfram & Hart
MS: Dangerous. "I'm so prosaic. This is so sad. I was expecting to come up with weird association words but these are all like flat out. I'm so dull." (laugh)
Dr. VH: Japanese Restaurants
MS: Sushi. "Ugh. I hate sushi, seriously! Do you know what we  call that where I grew up? Bait! Yeah, you put it on hooks and you get real food with that."
Dr. VH: Bethany Chaulk
MS: Hyper. "Which is so odd. I mean you wouldn't get that from Bethany but Daisy [McCrackin] who plays Bethany is just ten thousand miles a minute. She is just off the wall crazy but in a very, very good way."
 Dr. VH: Mere Smith
MS: "Ugh God! You don't do hard ones or anything do you? (laugh) Oh God, just put 'dork'!"

Well, the good Doctor may have his reservations but we think Mere Smith is certainly far from being considered a dork. Personally, I think she's bank! As a highly talented and creative writer of the Angel team she is roundhousing to the thud of her already won victories. A gifted wit to accompany an emotionally charged sense of her characters, she brings new excitement to an already outstanding season. Happily for us, we know we will be seeing a lot more of that talent! At least one more Mere-driven episode may appear this season as she informs us, "Right now it's looking like David Fury is writing episode 17. I think David Greenwalt will be writing 18 and then I think [he] will also be writing 22, which means there's three in the middle there. Tim will probably take one, Shawn will probably take one and I'll probably take one, but I don't know which one it will be yet but hopefully I'll have another one."
